Greetings and welcome to Audrey Jean Wells - Flute Instructor. I am a flute teacher giving lessons in my studio located in Timmins, Ontario. I can also accept students from the surrounding areas of Iroquois Falls, Cochrane, Kapuskasing, Hearst, Matheson, Kirkland Lake and Temiskaming Shores. If you are a flutist who is interested in taking lessons to develop your skills - and a love of music - my studio may be the right place for you.
FLUTE LESSONS
I am accepting flute students from beginner to advanced levels, and adult students are very welcome. I prefer to teach students who are at least eight years of age. I use the most effective methods available in flute lessons and tailor the curriculum to suit the individual student. Students taking flute lessons in my studio are encouraged to perform in our local music festival, recitals, and take Royal Conservatory of Music flute examinations; however these activities are not mandatory and will be undertaken only if the student feels comfortable.
THEORY LESSONS
The study of theory is extremely important for a good musical education, and I strongly encourage my students to undertake theory lessons at an appropriate time in their development. I also offer theory lessons to students of other instruments and to voice students. Through their theory lessons, students will develop musical understanding and literacy to complement their practical studies. Theory lessons culminate in Royal Conservatory of Music written theory examinations.
MY TEACHER PHILOSOPHY
"I believe that everyone is enriched through the study of music in terms of personal satisfaction, enhanced creativity and self-expression, and increased awareness and self-confidence. I believe that students respond best to example, and consequently I make a point of being enthusiastic, well-organized, and prepared for each flute or theory lesson. I provide written detailed practice instructions at each lesson, in order to facilitate the development of effective practice habits and approaches, and I expect student/parent cooperation. I believe in positive reinforcement as a motivator and I am careful to recognize effort, as well as results. I want my students to enjoy their flute and theory lessons, to set standards for themselves and to feel successful. I want them to work hard because they wish to improve their skills and knowledge. Each of them is unique and special. I try to let them know that."
